At last we can see the mountains across the valley, as there is less smoke and smog, although it is far from being clear. Davey had to rush his dog to the animal hospital, as a bear or cougar attacked it at night and ripped its back. There were reports of a cougar lurking about in this area, so we must be careful. The men have been working on what I thought was a simple retaining wall, but when I saw what they were doing I was amazed. Father Moses called it a work of art. They constructed a winding stairway to the lower garden where some berries were planted. In addition they have made three walls behind which flowers or bushes can be planted. Once it is finished it will be a splendid sight and, according to Father Moses, much like a Japanese garden. I had a good sampling of raspberries and figs this morning when I stepped out to look at the berry bushes and fruit trees.
Love reading these musings which make me “homesick” for all of you.
