We had an attractive day with the temperature above zero and the snow gradually melting.  Once again, people came bearing food—vegetables, fruit, bread, tea, a variety of sweets and some baked goods such as mushroom and potato pirog [pie] and spanakopita, including borshch and a variety of cheeses.  One family came with their two daughters, Catherine, aged five and a half, and Natalia, aged three and a half, both of whom speak English, Romanian and Russian, easily switching from one language to another. I do envy little children who can learn a language or two so easily.
