This is the first day of July and also Canada’s national holiday which is called Canada Day. In my youth it was known as Dominion Day and that name has always remained with me. We used to sing God Save The King [later it was the Queen] before classes commenced in the morning and even in movie theatres it was always played at the end of the last showing. I realize that it is old fashioned and out of date, but sometimes I really miss it. O Canada was introduced later and, to be honest, I am still confused when singing it, as the words have been changed a few times, so I simply hum to avoid making any mistake. At any rate, Happy Birthday Canada! It has been a superb day in which to rest after the weekend and I felt energized enough to work outside until the heat forced me indoors. Jonathan has come to stay with us for a while and we have already put him to work.
