THURSDAY 21 JUNE 2018

I was not quite accurate in mentioning in yesterday’s diary entry that it was the summer solstice, as I later saw that it occurred at about three a.m. today. Still, it was close enough and we shall see what summer has in store for us. A visitor, who has never lived in the country, was aghast at the smell of freshly scattered manure on our neighbouring fields, something that we are used to, as anyone who has ever had cows will attest to the importance of using natural fertilizers. Thomas went to the Queen Anne cherry tree and picked a huge amount of cherries, saying that there are so many still left. As I recall, this is the most that we have ever seen this tree produce so bountifully and not losing them to the birds.
