SUNDAY 19 AUGUST 2018

We celebrated the feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ today with the blessing of the first fruits of the season at the end of the service. The baskets of fruit filled the table and overflowed onto the floor, giving us a marvelous picture of the Lord’s generosity. The large number of worshippers included those from Helsinki, Vladivostok and Tokyo. Sasha had picked more than a bushel of prune plums to be blessed so that he could make jam to treat his wife and daughter when they return home in a couple of weeks from a trip to Latvia. However, we ate all the plums, so he had to go out to gather more. And, although this was the time to bless fruit, some brought even vegetables, all of which had just ripened. Unfortunately our figs are not quite ripe enough.
