SATURDAY 28 JULY 2018

I dreaded to think of what it would be like to baptize five month old Victoria in today’s heat, yet it was not unbearable in church and, moreover, she did not cry or even make the slightest sound during the entire service. Later we all went outside and had a light meal on the lawn, seated in the shade of not the cedar trees as before, but in the shade of the pine trees. There was enough of a breeze to make it enjoyable. Still later in the afternoon Father Alexey baptized another child but I did not attend the service. Our American guests drove to Grouse Mountain in Vancouver and were back in time for Vespers. Thanks mainly to Lija, a supper was quickly prepared for all of us, but this time we sat in the hall to avoid the heat. David and Anna joined us for Vespers and supper and I was very pleased to see them, especially since Anna is my goddaughter. A large basin was filled with flower petals for tomorrow’s Cross Procession.
