Rain finally arrived, although not as heavily as we had hoped, still every drop was a blessing. I hope that it will rain tomorrow as well, as all the plants really need it. We baptized one year old Stephen who behaved splendidly, except at the very end when he began to whimper. As he was carried into the altar, he suddenly became silent and began to smile. The godparents flew in from Toronto for the occasion. Many years ago the aunt of Stephen’s father was visiting from Russia where she was a professor at a prominent university, and she gave a lecture on traditional Russian designs in weaving, pottery, etc. here at the monastery. As it happened, I showed her some examples of woven cloths and rugs that I had inherited from my grandparents, some of these specimens dating back to the early 1700s. She was surprised to see such handiwork so far away from their original location. All of this work has been donated to the Alberta Provincial Museum where our good friend David Goa was a curator for many years. According to David, this establishment has one of the best facilities for textiles anywhere in Canada.
