SUNDAY 9 SEPTEMBER 2018

We certainly cannot complain about it being too hot and dry, as we had a gentle rain much of the day, a typically autumn rain. This was the first Sunday in weeks when it was comfortable in church and the fans were turned on possibly half way through the service. A lot of activity took place after the meal with Vladika Lazar giving a Meleti in the cottage, something that he had not done before because space was at a premium. A Romanian akathist was served in the new church with all those who were present taking part in the reading. Father Alexey served a baptism in the old church, while a group met in the hall to do Church Slavonic reading, followed by a singing rehearsal, so we all were immersed in one service or activity or another. Later, the first meeting of the literary book club [so to speak] began with a discussion of Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov. It is nine o’clock at this moment and people are still here, discussing not just Dostoyevsky, but all manner of relevant topics. This enthusiasm is a welcome and healthy sign of things to come.
