WEDNESDAY 30 MAY 2018

The mosquito season has begun in earnest and all that we can do is to wait until summer’s heat rids us of these annoying insects. It has been noisy at the monastery with Davey repairing the cover of the old pool while Andy trimmed the tops of the cedars and hauled away limbs and branches that suffered in last winter’s storm. We had two sets of visitors in the afternoon and both arrived at almost the same time. I welcomed Anatoly Terichov from Kemerovo in Siberia, where that dreadful fire killed dozens of people, who came with his son and daughter in law to visit his granddaughter. At the age of 92, he outshone me in every respect, being able to make long hikes and to have twice the strength that I have. He planted three trees in the memorial field for all those who were lost in the wars of the past. At the same time two Ethiopians came, both doctors, one a surgeon, the other an agronomist, as they are planning to bring a large group here in the middle of the month. Fortunately Vladika Lazar was able to visit with them.
