Morning began with the celebration of an Ascension Liturgy but, because Father Alexey could not be present, Vladika Lazar served the entire Liturgy except for some censing and giving Communion, as his right arm is not yet strong enough. Still, it was good to see him vested and serving once again. Later in the afternoon I took him to see the physiotherapist, where we sat outside, waiting for him to appear. Finally we phoned him to find out that he had become ill and was sitting in a walk-in clinic. He had forgotten to telephone us and so we turned around and came straight back to the monastery. Some of the boys dropped in and they carried over some storage containers from Vladika’a former bedroom, then I invited them to go to the kitchen where I had prepared a large amount of commercial vareniki. Knowing that young men are always hungry, I am sure they they ate all of them.
