The English-speaking Orthodox world is blessed with this offering of the "Psalm Verses of the Divine Liturgy, according to the Greek and Slavic usages," from *Oakwood Publications. This includes the antiphons, prokeimenons, alleluia verses, entrance verses and verses of the Communion hymns for ordinary Sundays and all major feastdays. Extremely helpful is the inclusion of the reference, general index, index of Psalm verses, index of Psalm phrases; one who actively participates in the Divine Liturgy will readily appreciate this labour of love. With this volume, a person could quickly find the psalm verses to be used for any celebration of the Liturgy.

There is an introduction to the volume which is informative and interesting. The text is clear, using language that could readily be understood by a moderately educated Orthodox parishioner. Even though the introduction is not long (11 pages), it is packed with information and clearly explains the use of the Psalms in the development of the Liturgy and does help clarify many confusions regarding the differences concerning Greek and Slavic usage.

This book is an excellent addition to any parish or private library and a wonderful way to become familiar with the Psalms as used in Orthodox worship; this is also an aid in understanding the Orthodox Christian interpretation of the Psalms.

We appreciate the fact that the translation is in a more formal style of English which is both respectful but also easily understood. Our hope is that there will be more of this kind of work being done and being made available.
