SUNDAY 30 SEPTEMBER 2018

This morning was overcast with a light drizzle, the type of morning when you would much rather pull the comforter over your head and go back to sleep. But such was not the case, for Sunday s a special day for us, the culmination of an entire week of preparation and expectation. The singing on the kliros was rough at first, but when Father Moses arrived, it improved immensely. Even though he was still feeling ill, he managed to come for most of the Liturgy and his participation encouraged everyone. Larissa from Vancouver Island was present and her sweet singing was a treat for our ears. Reader Dmitry gave the sermon in Russian, as today we served a Slavonic Liturgy. Father Shio served a Georgian Litury in the old church and I really cannot say anything about it, as I was not present, however, their main reader Andrei is in Toronto for a few days, so Misha did most of the reading. Vladika Lazar did not feel well, so he did not attend the Liturgy, but later a number of people came to the cottage for his Meleti which was filmed. Some of our Russian Old Believer friends were in attendance and, at the end of the meal, Anysim Kalugin and his son Xenon sang for us, using the ancient form of Old Believer chanting which lead some of us to suggest that we might try it as well, but I feel that it is too complicated for us, at least for the time being.
