SUNDAY 29 JULY 2018

Even though the temperature was about 35 degrees [about 100 degrees Fahrenheit] Today’s celebration of the feast of the Joy of Canada went splendidly. With two air conditioners and several fans, we managed to endure the heat. After the blessing of the old icon of Christ the Saviour, the Cross Procession began but, by that time I felt faint and I did not participate, the first time in all these years, although Vladika Lazar went on his “scooter” all the way to the monument and back. After stepping outside for a minute I felt better and walked down to the gatehouse where Father Moses and I waited for the procession to return. As people came up to the icon, they scattered flower petals upon the icon, then went under it, where they were greeted with a splash of holy water and some antidoron, All the while, the monastery bells rang out thanks to Igor’s skilled bell ringing. The Agape meal was abundant and it was possible to meet people who were visiting from Kirghistan, Sweden, Romania and the USA. For those who remained here for the entire day, a light supper was served at six o’clock by which time I was too exhausted to continue and so I went to the cottage to rest. We were pleased to received greetings from His Eminence Archbishop Irinee and many others, and now we can rest peacefully, thinking about nest year’s celebration. Many thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this celebration such a success.
