SUNDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 2018

This was an exceptional Sunday since there were two Divine Liturgies celebrated here at the monastery this morning, the regular one in the new church and another one in the old church. Father Thomas, a Georgian priest from Toronto and Father Shio, a hieromonk from Georgia, served in Old Georgian. Father Thomas has been here before, while Father Shio, who had spent a number of years in the Monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos, has come here for a prolonged visit to tend to the needs of the Georgian community in the Vancouver area. During his visit, he will be staying here at our monastery and, naturally, he will try to strengthen the spiritual life of the local Georgians. Today’s service was meaningful for them and some came from as far away as Fort McMurray in Alberta. With two congregations convening for the Agape meal, there was a shortage of space but no one complained. Later, we served the Akathist “Joy of Canada” in front of our icon of the same name, with everyone joining in with congregational singing. We also had sung Many Years for Father Moses whose name day it is tomorrow, and for Anthony Jersak who became an Orthodox Christian this morning, with me being his Godfather—congratulations and may God grant you many years!
