SATURDAY 2 JUNE 2018

Lija arrived with enough provisions, as they say, enough to feed an army. Even though feeling unwell she prepared supper for us and a number of dishes for tomorrow, since we will be having two potluck meals. Kirill put up an icon on the large cherry tree next to the monument in the field, while Davey cut away the overhanging branches along our road. He also brought a tree cutter who began to cut some of the trees behind the cottage, as they look dangerously weak and might fall upon the roof during a strong storm in winter. The mosquitoes are savage and, by the time I walked from the cottage to the main building, I must have been bitten at least two dozen times. The only redeeming factor is that they are with us for only a short period, until the heat of summer causes them to disappear.
