MONDAY 16 JULY 2018

After the long, busy and tiring weekend, I thought of how nice it would be to sleep a little longer this morning, but I had forgotten that I had promised to drive Thomas to the train station so he could catch the seven o’clock train to Vancouver. No doubt this is why I am so drowsy even though it is still quite early in the evening. Andy came to tell us that much work had been done in clearing around the blueberry bushes and also in pulling out the morning glory weeds. Ovidiu phoned to say that he had already cleaned the carpet in the new church, having begun very early before the heat of the day could be felt. We are most grateful for his work, something that none of could do and it is not surprising since this is his profession. At noon I wanted to have some kind of soup but there was nothing available, yet, in a few minutes, friends came with a pot of borshch, stuffed peppers and paper thin blini, on the occasion of the anniversary of the mother’s repose. Consequently, I did not have any ordinary soup but, rather borshch which I adore.
