FRIDAY 1 JUNE 2018

It is the first day of June, yet it felt more like early April with a cloudy sky, a brisk breeze and a touch of rain. I baked a large prosphora that came out of the oven in a splendid state. I cannot remember who told me that if one opens the oven to peek at how it is baking, there is a danger of the crust cracking. Indeed, the last two times I have refrained from peeking into the oven, no matter how briefly, and both times the prosphoras have turned out properly. Jonathan arrived later in the day and he will help with some of the work to be done here. I inherited an old family trunk, a large wooden one dating back to at least the early 1700s, according to what Grandfather told me years ago. I hate to part with it but it takes up space in the cottage, so perhaps we will have it moved to the reception room after giving away the electric organ that is of no use to us. One day someone might restore the trunk to its original beauty by refinishing its outer surface.
